Today, Monday 10/18/10, we went to Paintsville KY. which is about 35 miles north of Pikeville. Looking at the photos should tell you where we were. This alone was worth the short drive. It was a nice day, sunny and warm. The picture of a store is on the way to her birthplace, it is owned by her brother, and still being used by the local people. Going to her childhood home is a 1 1/2 lane road with the mountain on one side and a drop off on the other. The type of road you just hope that you don't meet anyone coming the other way. It was about a 3 mile ride into the back country to get to her birthplace. If you are wondering, yes, it is the outhouse, and yes, it is the only one there. Peggy said that she just had to sit where both Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle have sat.
